Community Foundation Scholarships

Dear Community Partner,

The Community Foundation of Greater Memphis manages 28+ scholarship funds for which graduating seniors that you work with might be interested in applying. Information regarding all of these scholarships can be found online at Although youth in your program are welcome to browse all of our scholarships, we have attached a list of those that we think would be of particular interest to your program participants.

All of these scholarships must be applied for online at no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2016*.

We have also attached a poster for you to hang up at your facility that will direct students to our scholarship opportunities.

*The Don Poier Memorial Scholarship is due no later than 4:00 p.m. on February 22, 2016.

Allen Jones/Marjorie Barringer/Bar-Kays Scholarship
This scholarship benefits graduating high school seniors who attend Shelby County Schools
high schools and will attend LeMoyne-Owen College.

Claude P. Thompson Scholarship
This scholarship provides support to further the post-secondary education of students residing in a non-traditional home or to further the education of a single parent.

Community Foundation of Greater Memphis Community Scholarship
The Community Foundation of Greater Memphis offers a scholarship to one or more outstanding students living in the metropolitan Memphis area who are civically engaged.

Constance Butler Goforth Education Fund
The scholarship honors Mrs. Constance Butler Goforth and is awarded to applicants displaying academic excellence, community service, and financial need. A scholarship recipient may reapply up to three times for a total of four awards over four years.

This scholarship assists well-rounded, public high school students living in Shelby County, Tenn., who demonstrate strong character and are actively involved in school and the community. The scholarship must be used towards the student's freshman year of college.

James A. Hyter Vocal Music Scholarship
This scholarship provides college scholarships to students with vocal talent and a love of music in memory of James A. Hyter.

Kylen C. Bares Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship assists at least one student annually from the Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering and/or a Shelby County Schools high school. This includes charter schools, contract schools, and public high schools within Shelby County Schools.

Mildred Galloway Scholarship
This scholarship honors Mildred Galloway and is awarded to a student from Shelby County
Schools whose high school study is in the area of Family and Consumer Sciences.

Mykea Rainey Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship honors Mykea Andrea Rainey and is awarded to public school students to help achieve the dream of completing a post-secondary education.

Ruby Holmes Hefley Scholarship
This scholarship provides for the children of parents with disabilities. The applicant's study may be in any academic area.
